Is it possible to transplant the carrot?
This is a question that up to now had been raised in the garden on a theoretical level on some occasions. On such occasions, my husband always tells the same thing, like those of Manzanal de Abajo (a town that by the way no longer exists, as it was flooded when it became the Valparaiso reservoir), they always transplanted carrots.
The thing is that I tell you this when I have this year one of the best carrot plants. Not one of the crops has been lost—well-hatched carrots. Too well-born. So well-born and so close together that we can’t have a good harvest with them. There were two possibilities: either a part was transplanted, or it had to be thinned out, eliminating excess plants.
Taking the practice of those from Manzanal as a reference, I decided that transplantation should be tried. We only lost a little time with it, and instead, if it worked, we multiplied the production.

When transplanting almost all plants and especially carrots, it is trying to do the least possible damage to the roots. In carrots, there is also a deep growth that develops the taproot. Without this, its growth would be difficult, developing in width, but not in-depth. For this reason, instead of pulling the root, I started pulling the plants with its stump, and then I was separating them from the ground.
Transplant the carrot
We prepare a good furrow. and mix of hummus with sand and earth.
We were placing one row of plants after another and then covering them with the fine soil.
In this way, we overlapped a total of five rows. Plants separated from each other, but not too much.
Next, we water, trying to wet the leaves of the plants as little as possible. Finally, we end up placing cardboard over everything that has been transplanted since they say that the temperatures will rise tomorrow, although we hope they will not rise too much.
